Tripping on road trips

I think road trips beat flying any day. There's something about sitting in a tin can with wheels that seems preferable to sitting in a tin can with wings. Maybe it's the feeling of control where you can stop at will and eat at will. Or maybe it's the fewer people that you have to engage with when on the road.

There are folks that enjoy the planning that precedes a trip as much as the trip itself -- I know of at least one :-) I am that person that you all like to talk about in gatherings in a mocking tone -- the one that has a spreadsheet and plans and notes galore. Someone who is prone to creating stuff like this.

The family remembers the spreadsheet more than the trip, I think!

So, when it comes to a cross-country trip, you can only imagine the fun I'm going to have with the planning. People tell you that you need to disconnect from technology and be one with nature and all that. Great idea: but I think what's better is to use technology to disconnect from nature and use technology to share your experiences with "disconnecting from nature."

I expect to keep posting updates here on a regular basis. Everything from the planning to the prep, to the actual trip, etc. Keeping you, the reader, entertained and engaged is also a mission but it's going to be a learning curve for me on that one. So keep reading and keep commenting.
